What is Shiatsu?

Shiatsu is a Japanese therapeutic art based on Traditional Chinese Medicine. Through pressure applied with the hands and body, it helps to unblock vital energy (Qi), promoting physical, emotional, and spiritual balance.

Founded by Glauco, a body-mind therapist with over 25 years of experience. The Academy reflect his passion for Oriental Philosophy, Traditional Chines Medicine, Martial Art and Yoga.

What you will learn in this course

This intensive one-year Course and the Residential Course are designed to guide you step by step in the art of Shiatsu, combining theory, hands-on practice, and the core principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

The Residential Program offers an immersive experience within the serene and untamed wilderness of Costa Rica. Participants will be provided with comprehensive facilities to foster an autonomous and independent learning process.

Course Area	What You Will Learn
Shiatsu Techniques	Perpendicular pressure, stretching, rotations, and sequences in supine, prone, lateral.
Traditional Chinese Medicine	Yin-Yang theory, the 5 Elements, Zang-Fu organs, 12 classical and zen merdians, and fundamental diagnostic principles.
Anatomy & Physiology	Applied study of the human body: muscles, joints, organs, and body systems from a therapeutic perspective.
Body Diagnosis	Observation of the Hara (abdomen), back, face, tongue, pulse, and emotional states for personalized treatment.
Constant Practice	Over 240 hours of hands-on practice with classmates and real clients, under supervision and with constant feedback.
Professional Integration	How to welcome and treat clients, case follow-up, therapist ethics, and a final supervised treatment ceremony.

Shiatsu Techniques

Perpendicular pressure, stretching, rotations, and sequences in supine, prone, lateral position. Therapeutic massage techniques for joints related conditions and acupunture points for organs related conditions. Dietary rebalancing through the therapeutic use of food.

Traditional Chinese Medicine

Yin-Yang theory, the 5 Elements, Zang-Fu organs, 12 classical and zen meridians, acupunture points and fundamental diagnostic principles.

Anatomy & Physiology

Applied study of the human body: muscles, joints, organs, and body systems from a western therapeutic perspective.

Body Diagnosis

Observation of the Hara (abdomen), back, face, tongue, pulse, and emotional states for personalized treatment.

Constant Practice

240 hours of class, hands-on practice with classmates and real clients, under supervision and with constant feedback, and 100+ hours of home practice and study.

Professional Integration

How to welcome and treat clients, case follow-up, therapist ethics, and a final supervised treatment final examination.

The residential timetable:

The Residential Course is scheduled for January 2026 and designed with 8 hours per day, Monday to Friday structure. It will be in two blocks of 3 weeks each, one in January 2026 and the other in May 2026. Further details will be given upon request.

What are the admission requirements?

No prior knowledge is required, but a strong commitment to attendance and active participation throughout the year is essential.

Does the course provide certification?

Yes. Upon completion of the training year and practical work, you will receive a Shiatsu Diploma endorsed by Shiatsu Massage Academy CR.
